Admission is programme-specific. The official undergraduate admissions page states that entry to the four-year B.Tech programmes is through the Joint Entrance Examination route used by the IITs. The foundation stone of IIT Mandi was laid at Kamand on 24 February 2009, and the institute was registered as a society on 20 June 2009. It became an IIT under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011, with parliamentary approval completed in 2012. The permanent campus is in Kamand Valley and includes North and South campus areas.

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi is a public technical and research institution in Kamand Valley in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh.
