About Bhabha Atomic Research Centre
The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is a major research and development centre under the Department of Atomic Energy. Its work covers nuclear science, engineering, reactor technology, materials, radiation applications and related areas. For competitive-exam and career candidates, BARC is especially relevant because scientific and engineering recruitment is conducted through the Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates (OCES), the DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme (DGFS), research associateships and other direct recruitment routes. BARC also recruits scientific assistants, technicians and administrative and support personnel through separate schemes and notifications.
History
The Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET) was established by Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha in January 1954 to support India's nuclear research programme. After Bhabha's death in 1966, AEET was renamed the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in his honour. BARC subsequently became a major centre for nuclear science, engineering and technology research in India.
